More along the lines of something we can agree on:

Someone else posted the following: I'm just reposting for you to see, since I recall your regression work is "legendary"

I ran a simple regression analysis on the DAILY Price of Gold (London PM fix) versus the DAILY closing price on the HUI from 12/19/01 through 12/12/03.

The correlation is about 86.4% on 497 observations which is a decent correlation for a simple linear equation (y=mx=b).

The formula would be POG = .71785 * HUI + 236.50.

So for example, if HUI were to close at 237.82, the POG would tend to be somewhere around 407.22 +/- 11 most of the time.

Regression Statistics
Multiple R 0.929339861
R Square 0.863672578
Adjusted R Square 0.863397169
Standard Error 11.70816875
Observations 497

I have further noticed that if there is an unusual non-correlating move in either gold or HUI, that they tend to reconverge over a period of a few days and keep moving forward again together.

The moves have tended to be sporadic and large. Either we get a significant spike up in gold, and then it take HUI some time to 'catch up' or we get a large drop in HUI that tends to sharply recover back to the trendline within a week.

Searle: Did you partake of the Feast of the Goldbugs? Wasn't what it was advertised to be. Sorry about that, I shouldn't have mentioned it. Nothing worse than an empty stomach. Oh well.....you probably needed to diet anyway. I actually think fasting is good for you!!
