As you are well aware, most of the atrocities that Saddam Hussein committed were done with the full approval and active aid of the Reagan and Bush 41 administrations. Hussein didn't lift a finger without getting approval from Washington on most of his brutality, especially the retribution on the al Sabah family of Kuwait for stealing Iraq's oil in the 1990 invasion. And the mass slaughter of the Shiites and Kurds in the aftermath of Gulf War I was due to the incitement by George H.W. Bush of the Shiites and Kurds, and Bush's rapid betrayal of these people. Even as stalwart a Republican apparatchik as Rep. Katherine Harris has stated, on the record, that Bush's actions were "tantamount to betrayal". You should know this history. Why do you pretend not to? *** Re: Documents in his briefcase, which was found with him, have led to several arrests of insurgency leaders and bomb-makers, and indicate he was, in fact, still involved in the insurgency. You're spin notwithstanding. One man's insurgency is another man's defense of his nation. Come on, R.D., how can you call what Saddam was involved in an "insurgency" with a straight face? America undertook a bald faced, naked aggression against another sovereign nation and that nation's deposed leader is merely doing what you'd expect him to. Doing, in fact, exactly what George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and John Hancock would have been doing if King George III had sent overwhelming force into his colonies to put down a rebellion. Our nation's founders would have been hunted "criminals" under such a show of force by the oppressive King George III. The rhetoric upon their capture would have been much the same as we use against our purported "enemy", former CIA employee Saddam Hussein. More on the contents of Saddam's briefcase here: abcnews.go.com (But not much more. Apparently, no big fish were found in this latest roundup. Not one of the 13 remaining "Deck of Cards" suspects was located.) **** Re: We now have statements from the man himself that there are no WMDs in Iraq. Well, that settles it then. Saddam says so - it MUST be true. When will you get it through your thick head that BUSH LIED about WMDs in order to sell his war of choice? Good God, man. You are incoherent on this matter. Have you not paid the least bit of attention to reality? David Kay, master WMD hunter, came home this month with his tail between his legs, skulking back to one of his "Right Wing Spider Holes" because he couldn't spin a web of deceit about WMDs. He comes home totally empty handed. Did you conveniently miss that news, R.D.? *** Re: Yeah, "sort of disgust[ing]" how his Gallup approval rating rose by five points afterward, eh? At least Karl Rove feels disgust. He was hoping for a 10 point pop. He feels badly that the American public isn't more manipulable and malleable to propaganda and disinformation. Especially his brand of lies and distortions. When I see you signing yourself as Dizzie, all I can hope is that you soon see that you are ,in actuality, Ditsy. Yours truly...
