The importance of reconciling with our allies at this time is becoming clearer to me now. But both sides must move, not just us. The capture of saddam, the forgiveness of some debt, and the possibility of allowing the french, germans, russians and canadians in on the rebuilding in exchange for some military/ngo contribution seems to be a fair compromise. The need to renew the war on terror together is far greater than the cat fight just engaged in. Now that Saddam is neutralized the choice is between a new better regime or armed baathist thugs, religous zealots and foreigners looking for a fight. For better or worse victory in iraq over these types is essential for the US and France and all the others. Mike
PS Thats what churchill would have said and in fact did when he reconciled with the appeasers who preceded him.
