<One really has to ask what sort of American foreign policy you would favor.> One that does more than pretend to live up to its values of democracy and freedom. One that shows deep respect for civil rights, without which there is nothing worth calling freedom and democracy, and one that reveres the rule of law, without which nothing else civilized is possible. I want a foreign policy less reliant on spin to justify our violent actions and less tolerant of hypocrisy when our actions clearly violate our principles -- I want an America that serves as a role model by what we do and how we live our lives and not simply an America that is feared because we have more firepower.
