Sometimes common sense does prevail. Good for the board.

As a former public library board member myself, I do know the challenges of the job.

We had lots of interesting discussions on the board of the difference between censorship and materials selection.

Plus interesting discussions of the role of libraries very much akin to the question of proscriptive vs. descriptive dictionaries. That is, should collection purchases be directed at what people want to read, or should the library use some of its limited funds to purchase "good" books that mioght not be of widespread interest but that were part of the cultural development of the community even if only a few patrons read them? How many copies of the latest Nora Roberts to buy, balancing the choice of multiple copies of a popular work to reduce the hold times (we could predict pretty accurately that about 45 people would sign up within the first week as soon as a new Nora Roberts came out) when that meant the inability to add other, less popular but more "important" works.

All very interesting issues -- and controversial!!
