L--No specific news, good or bad, on SanDisk, but the most recent issue of The Economist sees a glut in semiconductors in 2006, as new capacity begins production. The article in The Economist did not look at demand for specific types of semiconductors, which raises questions about where the purported glut might be.

There was also a report on a recent Samsung conference call that dealt with conversion of DRAM fabrication. The assumption here seems to be that anything Samsung does to increase its capacity for manufacturing flash memory is bound to hurt SanDisk. A similar kind of thinking persists in regard to QUALCOMM, where many analysts have assumed (wrongly, I believe) that competition for wireless handset chips for CDMA will hurt QCOM, which currently has at least 90 percent of the handset chip market. Just as QCOM gets royalties from others who make CDMA chips, so does SNDK get royalties on many flash products made by Samsung.

Then too, investors should remember that this Friday is triple witching options expiration day. There may be a concerted attempt to render the outstanding $60 call options on SNDK worthless at the time of expiration.
