This kid must have thought he could fly:

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

A 17-year-old Kendall Park boy died after he plunged from the 31st floor of a Manhattan hotel yesterday, falling through an atrium and landing on the bar of the hotel's lounge, police said. (just like in the movies!)

Vincent Deperalta fell from an interior balcony at the Marriott Marquis in New York City's Times Square shortly after midnight. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Hotel balconies are equipped with protective grates, and it was practically impossible for anyone to fall from one accidentally, said Kathleen Duffy, a Marriott spokeswoman.

Guests at the lounge screamed and ran as Deperalta hit the bar.

"Everyone was running in different directions," Carlos Lopez, of San Juan, said. "My first thought is that it was a terrorist attack."

Deperalta was not a registered guest at the hotel, said Duffy. She would not say whether he was staying with relatives or friends.

(I guess no one wanted to admit knowing him after his swan dive)
