>>Does your Chinese employer allow you to join a union, Yiwu? <<

elmat, although I have not lived in China for more a decade, I know for a fact that all the SOE employees in China belong to the union, although that NOT prevents them to be laid off.

Few employees in joint adventures belong to union. I read just a couple of months ago that the Chinese National Union Publicly called upon Walmart in China to allow their employees in China to join the union. And no surprise that Walmart management claimed it is their worldwide policy that no union allowed in Walmart.

And keep in mind, the working condition in Walmart in China is 100 times better comparing with those sweatshops set up by Taiwanese/HK capitalists<g>
