Qualcomm is not a good comparison.

For starters, Qualcomm does not manufacture their ASICs instead they rely on third parties (I believe Intel) to fabricate it.

Many cell phone companies have relied on Qualcomm's ASICs, but currently Motorola and Nokia do not. Nokia I believe does not use Qualcomm ASICs since they utilize TI DSPs.
