That's pure speculation -

How many years of devoting resources to enforcement of "no fly zone" would you want? The cost was not worth it and Saddam was his own worst enemy. Bragging about his WMD and putting the word out that he had WMD and supporting terrorists were what did him in.

If he had sat quietly like Quaddafi, he'd still be in power probably. He played a high stakes poker game and lost.

Bottom line - the world is better off. His people are the big winners.

what do you think would happen to him, if they let him off in the middle of the streets of any city outside his own home district?
