<People will get the level of ethics and rational priorities they vote for, it's that simple>

Nope, it is not that simple, it also depends on the election system.

Winner-takes-all-FPTP-single-seat-two-party-systems are famous for achieving election results which do not mirror the opions and will of the voters.

What is worst, the system tends to feed itself in a circle which also includes the media.

That is, one major mechanism is that people should not really know what they are voting for, hidden behind multitude levels of "smoke and mirror", causing increased and increasing levels of voter or citizen frustration, lower voter participation. That is, the (or one) reason UK is so busy reforming.

Yes, we will find out.

I said long ago that we cannot have zero terrorism and still remain the kind of free country we have at times been, and usually aspire to be. We will have to accept a little uncertainty in our lives, or learn to live with fascism- and even then we won't be 100% protected, we'll simply no longer be a semi-free country.
