Must be too complicated to spell it out...."We oppose tyrants....sometimes.....in some places.....under some circumstances....absent any mitigating circumstances, of course....like trade ties or nuclear retaliation or stepping on our remaining allies' toes.....or if we buy a lot of stuff from them that we need.....and especially if they piss us off personally.....and they aren't located in some godforsaken corner of the planet we don't give a crap about....and we have enough troops available without calling up the reserves for the next five years.....and Cheney says it's good idea....and it makes Colin nervous.....heh heh heh....what a wimp...what was I talking about again?"

That is called "neocon pragmatism" these days. (one extremely important part of "neocon ideology", plus "the (our) goal makes all methods holy", or whatever way it went)

Check the Perle link I provided. Although it is mostly empty sentences stringed to each other, or maybe because it is, it also gives a good picture of "the debate-climate" outside of the regular media, as well as congress.

or even being buddies with the SAME dictator while he is gassing his own people. I have to say, the humanitarian thing rings really hollow. Where WERE all these bleeding hearts when I was writing my letters for amnesty international about the Kurds? I know where they were: saying God bless America, saluting a flag and kissing Saddam's ass because he wasn't Khomeni.
