they got Saddam long ago, they only waited for the right timing to release the news.

It was very handy to blame all the attacks on US forces on Saddam, after a while they realized it does not help and needed a moral boost, and went to Saddam's hole to take him in.

Also I think they waited for the Iraqi War tribunal to be established and tried to have a orderly due process.

We as outsider will know very little of the truth but to me Saddam looked like he was drugged for a long period of time and completely disoriented, not as some one that was capable to conduct an elaborate guerrilla fight.

Remember his sons put up a hell of resistance and in the arab world the way Saddam was "supposedly captured" is a big disgrace. In no way would any arab leader give up the way it was described, and for sure not some one like Saddam - he knows that the death penalty awaits him any way so why not put up a fight ? get some credibility with his fellow arabs? ....... because he was drugged IMHO
