Phil > Compared to Zimbabwe, South Africa is the epitomy of fiscal responsibility

Without any doubt. In fact, compared to many/most countries, SA is the epitome of fiscal rectitude. There is very little deficit financing and the big fiscal debt which developed during the last years of the previous regime has been all but paid off. That's why the government is so confident. In fact, the one gov dept that works well is the dept of finance.

Zimbabwe was not always a basket-case. For many years it was truly an example to other African countries. Then Mugabe went mad ----- and the rest you know. He was always a shit, but the madness is more recent.
