Bigger Issue:

FTTP presumes there is something to FTTP-for, and that thing or collection of things will pay off the overlay costs in a reasonable time period.

Anyone got any ideas not already covered in spades by CATV and their already existing infrastructure?

As far as I can tell, FTTP is a desperation play on the part of the aforementioned RBOCs, who hope they can compete product and service-wise with cable and satellite (a head to head me-too play), because the residential phone revenue base is very quickly going to cellular. To add to that threat, I am already seeing business drifting in that direction (cellular).
