That's where before Reagan, conservatives believed that the Soviet economic system was viable and in good health; but Reagan changed all that, by funding the Afghan freedom fighters and getting the Taliban into power.

And, of course, we shouldn't forget Iraq and how Reagan and Bush Sr. supported Saddam for a good decade....all in our national security interests.
