china stock article in economist is good one. some here have ownership and interest in chinese stocks. i have written a few posts here on what i know to be true about stocks of mainland chinese companies (both private and government companies) listed on the hong kong exchange. poking around today i found this really good article from the economist posted by chinton. i gotta tell ya' whether you own or plan to own some chinese stocks, this is a good summary article (it has good details too) i think. i am sure everyone who buys chinese stocks has his eyes open, but this article is good, truthful info.

this is a good quote from the article.

"The market is less of a casino than it was, says Mr Green, but that does not make the Middle Kingdom a haven of good governance. Contrary to what one might hope, the performance of companies that list in the domestic markets in Shenzhen or Shanghai usually deteriorates after they come to the market. That is partly because companies massage their numbers to enable them to get a listing, but it is also because company managements feel little compunction about fleecing shareholders, domestic or foreign. Of the hundreds of lawsuits filed, the China Securities Regulatory Commission has allowed only a handful to proceed."

so while outside-of-china investors/speculators may be happy to snap up the H or Red Chip shares that are on the hong kong markets, the mainland chinese investors/speculators are not nearly as anxious. so fyi.

by the way i tried to get the direct link from the economist website, but it was not available and apparently is a for-pay type article.
