China link to Leeds
17 December 2003
A Chinese petrochemicals tycoon could be a top contender to buy debt-ridden Leeds United.

Xu Ming, president of plastics company Shide, has repeatedly expressed interest in buying overseas teams.

Xu, 31, also serves as chairman of seventime national champions Dalian Shide and wants to pair them with a top European club.

Leeds are looking for new investors to help reduce their £80million debt and departing Leeds chairman John McKenzie has business interests in Asia.

He could be part of a Chinese bid after stepping down to avoid any conflict of interest in negotiations with potential new investors.
