Stalin was a dictator powerful enough not to require coddling. He would have existed regardless of whether FDR supported him or not.

Two things. 1. Stalin may not have existed because Germans may have squashed him were it not for western support. 2. Whether he may have required coddling or not is immaterial here. The fact is, he was a dictator that was even worse than Saddam. Many resources he used to destroy civilians were resources he did not have to spend against Germans because we helped him. The upshot of it is this: we "coddled" Stalin for the same reason we "coddled" Saddam. The principle involved is precisely the same. So if you hate our "coddling" of Saddam, you are logically compelled to hate our "coddling" of Stalin.

Your post is just meaningless leftist speculation given here because it is the only "support" you have to support your position. Ultimately, it is born out of a profound ignorance of recent world history.

Saddam would have not amounted to much had Reagan et al not fed him.

Saddam was powerful enough to mount offensives against Iran for quite sometime before America got involved. This was the same Iran that had earlier held America (under the pathetic Democrat Jim Carter) hostage for well over a year in Tehran.

He gassed the Kurds, but who gave him the weapons?

He developed them himself and used them against growing Reagan opposition.

(Hint: Rummy was going around in Baghdad those days and posing for pictures with Saddam).

FDR and Churchill also posed with Stalin.
