There is no welfare state anymore. Welfare as we know it is gone. Some welfare however is a needed thing. The big corporations get plenty of welfare. Bush's energy plan had 20 billion in it for big energy cmpanies. His Medicare plan has 12 billion in it for HMO's. Then there are the HUGE farm subsidies which are the biggest welfare item of all. Much of that 190 billion a year (I think the figure is) is paid to mega argibusiness concerns who need no help at all.
