More Federal Money Coming for Airport Surveillance Tests Dec 18, 2003, DENVER -- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is delving our more money for airports to test new security and surveillance technologies. The Denver Post reports eight United States airports will divide up $7.8 million in grants, including $310,000 for Denver Int’l Airport (DIA) to test an “advanced video surveillance system.” The money will be used to install new digital technology that should improve the images from video cameras in certain airport locations, DIA spokesman Steve Snyder told the Post. The new video technology DIA will test should help security officials link images from different cameras together so they might be able to electronically follow someone who causes a security breach, Snyder said. Other airports getting money for security improvements include T.F. Green Airport in Providence, R.I.; Newark International in the New York City area; Boston's Logan International; Pittsburgh International; Chicago's Midway Airport; Helena Regional Airport in Montana; and Key West International in Florida. Newark International will spend $ 1.7 million on a video surveillance system that will string together images from different cameras to help identify an intruder who breaches the airport perimeter. securitysales.com steve
