He was president of SA at a time when there could easily have been violent civil war but he pacified everyone, whites and blacks, and made all proud to be South African. Sure, he has his faults but nonetheless he is an exceptional human being --- 27 years in jail and no bitterness. That, in itself, takes some doing. And he's not stupid.
