DNC Hispanic Caucus Leadership Endorses Dean for America

Continuing to build a broad coalition of Democrats from a diversity of communities, Governor Dean was endorsed today by the leadership of the Democratic National Committee's Hispanic Caucus.

The Caucus Chair, Alvaro Cifuentes (Maryland), was joined by the Vice Chair, former Denver City Councilmember Ramona Martinez (Colorado), the Caucus Secretary, and State Senator Iris Martinez (Ill.), and the Treasurer, former District Clerk Oscar Soliz (Texas). They are endorsing independently of the Hispanic Caucus, but together they comprise the DNC's Hispanic Caucus executive committee. Also endorsing Governor Dean was Steve Ybarra, Pacific Regional Vice Chair of the DNC's Hispanic Caucus.

Chairman Alvaro Cifuentes said, "I've known Governor Dean for the past 10 years; he always impressed me when we worked together in the Democratic Governors' Association, and I believe he is the candidate who is looking out for the best interests of our community. The passion, emotion and conviction that he brings to the presidential race are exactly what we need to beat George Bush, and he has secured my endorsement."

Former Councilmember Ramona Martinez said, "Governor Dean is responsible for energizing new Democratic voters and his message is clear -- we must 'Take Back America.' I encourage Hispanics to rally around our strong candidate, Governor Howard Dean."

Senator Iris Martinez said, "As Secretary to the DNC Hispanic Caucus, I am proud to support Governor Howard Dean. I believe he is the best chance the Democrats have to take on George Bush and win back the White House in 2004."

Oscar Soliz said, "Howard Dean is running a campaign that includes a very diverse group of supporters, many of whom are actively participating in politics for the first time. His vast popular support is demonstrated by the large number of individual contributors that his campaign has been able to attract across the country."

Steve Ybarra said, "I'm pleased to be one of the first Hispanic DNC members to endorse Howard Dean. His positive agenda for the future is just what this country needs after four years of George Bush."

"I am honored to be joined today by these four distinguished leaders of the Hispanic community. That each of them came individually to the decision to endorse my candidacy and our campaign means a great deal to me," Governor Dean said. "Alvaro, Ramona, Iris and Oscar are dedicated and respected members of our party, and their commitment to help us take our country back demonstrates how this campaign is uniting Americans from all walks of life for a common purpose and common goals."

"Hispanics will continue to play an ever more important role in our political process, and ensuring that their voices are heard is essential to taking back our Party, our White House and our country in 2004," Governor Dean said.

"George W. Bush talks a lot about "tax cuts," but he doesn't
mention how much his fiscal irresponsibility costs.
Call it the "Bush Tax" - it's what we are all forced to pay
because the president gave away your money in
tax breaks mostly for people making over $300,000 per year.
The Bush Tax shifts tax costs to states and communities, which then raise your taxes to make
p the difference.

The only way to get rid of the Bush Tax is to get rid of George W. Bush - and
the first step is for Howard Dean to win the Iowa caucuses"
