What it seems to be telling the street is, that without this huge R & D investment Apple would have no profits at all.

I don't know about that. If Apple just stopped R&D spending entirely for a few quarters, their profits would go up a lot in the short term. But after that, Apple would go out of business.

So when you consider with all it has done, it is still just barely keeping positive momentum. So Apple can't afford to cut back on R & D.


I agree with that. Apple does have to get new customers - and selling into the enterprise is their best bet, I think.
