thecow, rrufff, shadowman: Thanks for replying to my question last month regarding type of computer setup I might want to get in replacing/upgrading a three-year old system.

My new system's in as of today. I got a router to connect my wife's computer to my computer's DSL service. I decided not to go wireless. The computers are in adjacent rooms, and neither of us has laptops, nor do we intend to use our computers anywhere other than at our desks.

I wanted to be able to use two screens at once at my desk. I've kept my old system (my cat likes the warm CRT) and my computer guy (I am computer illiterate) built me a new system with a Dell 19" flat panel display, Win XP professional, and a wireless keyboard and mouse. I'll have two keyboards and mice on my desk, but the wireless aspect will give me some flexibility in moving stuff around.

I asked for a cd burner so I could back up files that way (instead of on floppies as with my old unit). He also put up some software so I could get started ripping files and having MP3 music downloads (I'm intending to purchase an mp3 player.)

I'm very happy to have found someone who could help me get something tailored to my needs. Great to have the person come in, set things up, and explain the basics of the equipment and software to my wife and me.

I have a lot to learn here just in understanding the features of the mouse and keyboard, let alone all the stuff that's on the computer and how it's arranged and what it does. I got the basics of what I need to know though, and I consider myself lucky that I found a professional to help me.

I want to thank you guys for your response to my question. You helped me clarify my requirements, and assisted my in my discussions with the computer builder. Thank you.
