The French want only to ban the scarves. Bush wants to ban the people who wear them.

If I "was France," I'd take great pleasure in telling Mr. Bush to KMA.

With maximum media coverage.

Agree w/Karen on the Muslims ... he'd rather see them dead, and the religion "non-existent."

Probably the same with the Jewish.

Just look at right wing Christian fundamentalist hypocrites and you'll get your answer. For myself, I don't want ANY religion part of public schools or any public project for that matter.

mishedlo,

I don't know if you noticed, but not a single person here answered your question. Not one of them spent even a single sentence explaining why an expression of religious belief should be denied. Will the French be banning the wearing of crucifixes, stars of David and crescent shaped artifacts as well?

"The French want only to ban the scarves. Bush wants to ban the people who wear them." - Karen Lawrence

Freedom of religious expression is allowed in the USA. There are no pogroms in the USA against muslims or any other religious group. Our little lady, Karen, is emotionally venting her hatred about Bush. But her comments sidestep any meaningful answer to your question.

"If I "was France," I'd take great pleasure in telling Mr. Bush to KMA. With maximum media coverage. Agree w/Karen on the Muslims ... he'd rather see them dead, and the religion "non-existent. Probably the same with the Jewish." - laura bush

Laura agrees with Karen and then adds the unnecessary and gratuitous remark about jews. Can you can feel laura's venom? She adds nothing of consequence to the issue of freedom of expression.

What on earth does sylvester mean about the Christian fundamentalists anyway? What does wearing a scarf have to do with promoting religion? Is he trying to suggest that Christians go around banning religious artifacts? Maybe in his country they do, but not in the USA.

Because of the first amendement [below] religious groups in the U.S. may not specifically proselytize their religious beliefs in public school. This is a reasonable restriction, but that is a far cry from just wearing a frigging scarf.

The first amendment of the U.S. constitutions provides that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I found it astonishing that not neither karen, laura or sylvester seem aware of, much less respect, the intent of the first amendment.

....then again, maybe I'm not so surprised. They are clearly not from the USA.
