I think what it means is most on the street don't even consider Apple a player in the big picture. Yes they often lead the way in design and technology, but since those leads, if you want to call them that, don't last too long.

As much as many hate to hear it, this is so familiar to how Sony has operated for decades in Japan. What is interesting about Sony is they aren't so popular in Japan but have a huge following outside of Japan. Panasonic is the king In Japan and lives in many ways off Sony technology and Panasonic's superior marketing. Sound familar?

Gaining market share to a 10 percent level would give them a presence which they really need, but it doesn't seem possible.

To put it simply, all of Apple's efforts at best just helps them maintain what little market share they have and nothing more.

In other words the street a.k.a. the market, isn't impressed!
