I saw Return of the King yesterday. I have been a big fan of the books for thirty years. I loved FOTR, thought TTT was good (& much improved in the Extended Edition). I thought ROTR was excellent. First thought was: That was the quickest 3 hr 20 min movie I've ever seen. I need to see it again, I only saw 40% of it at most, and that's not counting the times when I had to skip out to go to the ladies' room. Second thought: I want to see the Extended Edition now. All the scenes with dialogue felt truncated. PJ has definitely raised the bar on fantasy films as much as the original Star Wars did in its day, and without giving short shrift to the deeper content of his story.
