What nation do you owe your allegiance to and how would you compare that nation in similar circumstances? Israel lives an existence under the threat of annihilation and this existence has been the same since its foundation. Despite that, it is the only real democracy in the mideast and has the best record for treating its people even minorities Arabs. Compare our own nation's paranoia with the Japanese in WWII and even how we treated many foreign nationals after 9/11. I can't even say that I would react differently if I were transported back to WWII and were making the decisions. I'd like to think I would be different but it's almost impossible for me to say clearly that I would not be caught up in the fear that was so pervasive back then. I know my knee jerk reaction after 9/11 was similar to most Americans. Now, as time goes by, the rationality that all Arabs are not evil has sunk in. Nevertheless, the teaching of hatred by Muslim schools and religious leaders is a major force of evil and all civilized nations must get together to eliminate this threat to the next generations of the world. Making alliances with friendly tyrants, as has been our MO in the past, will no longer be the approrpriate or most effective way. Morality and equitable principles must overtake our history if we are to survive this threat. Israel is not perfect. What you and your hate-filled buddies do is to focus solely on those imperfections and fail to look at the big picture. I have often posted that I do not like Sharon and feel that he would never win an election in Israel if there had been no terror campaign by Arafat and company. Labor ruled Israel for most of its existence. Likhud and extremists came into power because the people were in fear. I contend that this is very understandable. Even in our own nation, it is likely that Bush will be re-elected even though most people don't feel that he is a particularly bright or able leader. The vast majority of Israelis would have nothing to do with the extreme Christian fundamentalists, particularly if they studied what they preach. I don't that much about Sean Hennity. I believe he is a news commentator? Is he a religious fundamentalist? As for Rush, he's been exposed as a hypocrite. I can look at individuals and reject parts of their messages. Yet, I still admire others who have messages that are closer to moderate, even if labelled "right-wing" or "left-wing." Try to be objective rather than just let your hatred show. It's real easy to be brave from the comfort of your keyboard and judge those who are subjected to the equivalent of 9/11 on a weekly basis. I find it so amusing how so many here will claim everything is a right-wing conspiracy. Yet, their nutcake rantings prevent the moderate view from expanding as rational people reject these absurdities that emanate from their keyboard.
