ACU ActionNet Alert

Clinton Judge Springs Hinckley

Dear ACU Friend,

U.S. District Court Judge Paul L. Friedman, a Clinton appointee, granted John Hinckley unsupervised vacations from the Washington mental hospital where he has been imprisoned since he attempted to assassinate President Reagan in 1981. This is an outrage.

The Secret Service still regards Hinckley as a threat not only to President Reagan, but also to President Bush and others. Hinckley was acquitted on the grounds of insanity. Nancy Reagan believes Hinckley is still dangerous to President Reagan and to others. But now the doctors say Hinckley should be turned loose without supervision.

President Reagan is in the twilight of his life. Mrs. Reagan should not have to deal with the prospect of a free John Hinckley as she cares for the Gipper in these difficult final days.

Judge Friedman could have kept Hinckley in the mental hospital where he belongs. Instead, he decided to turn Hinckley loose.
