I think you're wrong on the crap tv and tabloid issue. From what I've read, most of the reality shows have had tryouts outside the US and the more extreme ones never reach our Puritan shores.

As I suggested, viewing nonsense is common throughout the world and throughout history. The US is no worse. It is sad but understandable that most don't have the time or energy to be intellectual or even to understand that they don't know the names or positions of those who take away up to 1/2 of their earnings each year.

I don't know about the homeless issue but hear that the plight of what we would consider homeless in Paris is masked by horrid shelters that pass for homes. Outside the big cities, and I live in suburbia, we never see a homeless person. So much for statistics and grand statements.
