So if we sum up--saddam is gone, libya neutralized as a threat, pakistan and india making strides over kashmir, iran being controlled by the US/Euros(we hope), and the rest of the middle east considering joining rather than fighting the US---the iraq war on those grounds seems wildly successful. Not to minimize the troubles we are having in iraq or the other rogue state NK, which is still somewhat out of control OR the Israeli Palestine dispute which seems not to be improved at all by the removal of saddam. That one requires the removal or death of arafat and I suspect a transition of power in israel to a strong, preferably Likud leader that is not as reviled by the pals as sharon. Sharon has played his historical role. The israelis have won I2 battle but to win the war by securing a peace probably needs a new face. Mike
PS am not in any way comparing the evil arafat to sharon--and the death(natural) or removal of arafat in some manner is a prerequisite to a sharon retirement in any case.
