If I had been Saddam, I would have signed on the dotted line, jumped in my jet and boogied off at flank speed. Beats the hell out of sitting in a hole drinking warm Coke. Of course, if he had taken a page from Libya's book and become the paragon of reason and virtue in his dealings with the West, he would still be in power today.

It's a chess move - make some small sacrifices to stay in the game.

Drugs and terrorism have been bedfellows for ages now. People forget that modern terrorism has been around since the late 1960's in various guises. Our western appetite funds the very forces we fear the most.

But we also employ many of the illegal immigrants that we try and fail to stop at our borders. Pogo was right -sometimes we don't have to go far to find the root cause of some of our troubles.

Doesn't make any of it right or understandable or forgivable, but it sure puts the issues in a different light.
