New Mexico privatized their prison system and it has been a terrible experience. Poor service and the corporation which owns the prisons raking off a nice profit. That profit could have been and should have been in the system. if Medicare gets privatized you'll have the same thing. Drug companies and HMO's gouging as much as they can get and services reduced. All on the tax-payers back. If you don't believe me now, you will if you see the results. The GOP stands for corporations. As we've seen in the age of Enron, corporations cannot always be trusted. No government agency ever ripped off billions from the public and let its executives pocket it. Now the postal system for instance is running smoothly and has a surplus. The right-wing attacks on government have been overblown and harmful. The real waste in government is when they hand over things to firms like Halliburton, or pork barrel politics a la Tom delay. Pigs at the troughs. Also dont forget the S+L debacle and the phony energy crisis. Deregulation and privatization are often a license to steal.
