>>>I see it as an indication that the insulter has reached the end of his desire to actually think. : )<<<

Now, wait a minute! I happen to appreciate barrooms where insults are well thought out and taken kindly--lol!

All humor aside, your points regarding why people insult were well made.

None of us want to stand in line only to be treated unkindly when finding the front. But still a well-mannered insult is frequently a wanted perogative for any in a coffee forum. I guess it's really a matter of how mean you are delivering the insult.

But, all in all, I'd much prefer to see back and forthers go at it than the scene depicted below:

Maybe it comes from the top:

Unquestionably what is happening is that Republicans like Rove and the uber-devious Grover Norquist have set up divisiveness and rancor as important tools in their arsenal for their onslaught on democracy. They have brought this tactic all the way down to state houses and local jurisdictions.

The lack of comity in our politics today is a deliberate tactic. It is much like the belligerence of the National Socialists in Germany in the mid-1930s when they were consolidating power and eliminating rivals. They have learned their lessons well on how to rise to power and dominate the nation. Too bad they have read the final chapters of the National Socialist book.
