GERN/Roche... Thanks Tuck for your views on this subject. I am not qualified to debate the merits of various studies that have been published, but from your viewpoint it seems that you do not feel the information on the GERN web site is accurate. I've talked with a couple of people who work in genetics to understand their views on the "value" of Geron. It was their opinion that the value of the company lies in the patents that GERN holds on the technology that has the potential to produce drugs that will change the course of various diseases. "Geron’s three complementary technologies— telomerase, human embryonic stem cells and nuclear transfer — have been built on breakthrough discoveries in basic science and are protected by more than 100 issued or allowed patents and over 300 pending patent applications worldwide." "Each of our technology platforms presents product opportunities for the company, and additional opportunities arise from their combination. We are working to develop and commercialize therapeutic and diagnostic products for applications in oncology and regenerative medicine and research tools for drug discovery. We are actively licensing nuclear transfer technology to others for applications in agriculture and production of biologicals." It will be interesting to see where this technology leads, and in the long run, I hope that some of the promise of various biotech companies is realized. I mentioned in a post several months ago that a good friend of mine has benefited by Herceptin®....and that Genetech and the drug they developed has helped to save her life. Beyond the views of those who are long or short a specific stock... the miracle of the new possibilities of the treatment of various diseases seem very promising to me!
