ARMHY is frequently discussed on the NPI board there, and extensively on the ARM board there. << Could you, in a nutshell, summarize the company and their business. >> Tinkershaw could probably do that best. I might say however that although he thinks their tornado in wireless has subsided, I think its ongoing but I'll save that for a later post, and a miniPH Frank volunteered me to write. This describes them rather concisely:ARM Holdings plc designs high-performance, low-cost, power-efficient reduced instruction set computing (RISC) microprocessors and related technology and software and sells development systems to enhance the performance, cost-effectiveness and power-efficiency of an extensive range of embedded applications. The Company licenses and sells its technology and products to electronics companies, which in turn manufacture, market and sell microprocessors, application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and application-specific standard products (ASSPs) based on the ARM architecture to systems companies for incorporation into a wide variety of end products. - MSN Investor - In a nutshell, in mobile wireless, their 8 bit/16 bit/32 bit microprocessor IP cores are now de facto standard in all but the lowest entry level handset products and their 32 bit microprocessors (ARM7, ARM 9) are enabling wireless data evolution. Its getting unusual to find a handset without at least one ARM 7. Higher end units use ARM 9, Some use multiple ARM 7's, or ARM 7 + ARM 9. Their architecture of their products is proprietary, and it is open, very open. They have an exceptionally close working relationship with TI, STMicro, and Nokia (MIPI Alliance founders), but work closely with, and support all the majors, and of course Qualcomm is a major ARM user. << Please direct me to writings that might help me understand their business. >> They have an excellent website. Start here:arm.com If interested in them I recommend you register and download their excellent quarterly newsletter, "Innovation": arm.com Best, - Eric -
