(a)Make a highly-publicized find (Hussein, bin Laden, WMDs), shape the ensuing debate, attempting to steer opponents and others into positions they can be held hostage to, (b)push the terror button to watch reactions, (c)continue to push on Americans claims of undisclosed "evidence of terror real soon now" while at the same time exhorting everyone to enjoy life and keep shopping. This untenable position desensitizes the public to making terrorism a familiar part of everyday life, and reinforces the command-and-control response, both changes required for totalitarian control. A classic example of this form of police state is the movie "Brazil", where the main character finally says to his friend, "Have you ever actually seen a terrorist?". The answer, of course, is no. It turns out these various warnings and explosions heard daily are created by those who control gov't. As long as they feel Dean is sufficiently neutralized, the truth of this presumption will be shown by the next couple of steps -- another major "discovery", followed by incrementally-larger warnings, leading up to a major event in October, when Junior says, "hey, I may not be perfect, but do you really want to chance changing horses in mid-stream?". Psychologically it's difficult to guarantee a particular reaction from a single individual, but a population can be controlled with reliability. Here's the problem -- there is a significantly large contingent of Americans who believe the worst of this administration, and will be in an even greater fighting mood should anything coincidentally happen to move Dean out of the picture or an "October Surprise". The real idiocy is the likelihood even such manufactured ends could be baccomplished without creating such public lies. Patience, statesmanship and diplomacy could maintain both the respect of the American people and Europe. It's almost as if the idea is to maintain global conflict. The danger is that the principals will decide to continue to stonewall the increasing list of unanswered questions, hoping to persuade or control many millions of critics by other means.
