I don't know what country the author was living in in 1973 but it sure as heck couldn't have been the USA.

Funny that this article was written for the Seattle Times. Cuz 30 years ago, Seattle was one of the hardest hit cities in the US.

The steel belt also became known as the rust belt.

I think he confused the 1970's with the 1960s.

The reason why were having a job-loss recovery is that for the most part we didn't have a job-loss recession. Unemployment bottomed at something like 4.9%. Now its 5.9%.
