The story in the English papers about the Kurds finding Saddam Hussein, drugging them and then holding him for the American troops and photographers doesn't ring true. This is not like the Jessica Lynch Project, which was mostly a Bush campaign fabrication. Several problems come to mind:

1. Had the Kurds found him first, the odds of him being dead today are very high.

2. Drugs are not perfect weapons as far as timing and degree of unconsciousness goes. And, as far as I know, Kurdistan is not at the forefront of medical technology. They would have been taking a big chance of him escaping.

3. Saddam would be sure to mention it at his show trial.

So, though I see no limits on the depths to which the Busheviks will go to win election for the first time in 2004, this story looks like a non-starter.
