As you may know, I'm not one to feel the "third way" can work terribly well. That freedom is of value, is an over-arching truism, IMO. Freedom won't bring perfection tomorrow, but will get us closer quicker, IMO.

The neofascism holds at it's core the oil, steel, and other resource based producers of the industrial revolution era. They are afraid of a country and economy where ideas can be more valuable than private property. Ideas are harder to scout, buy, and control. As you say, they are hostile to an economic change.
