"The point of that story is only that there are lots of cultural issues that we should understand as the clash between Islam and the West plays out. We should hear about cultural conflicts like that from reporters and news analysts."

I've noticed that when this subject is broached, it is
almost always a one way street. How dare we offend the
sensibilities of some other country? The only culture that
is wrong & can be openly & freely questioned is the
Americans? How dare we ask other cultures to even attempt
to understand our culture(s) here in the US?

No, we let them stereotype & perceive that the US is
the "evil empire", forcing its will upon other nations
without mentioning how that might be a serious problem.
The unspoken here is that we are somehow imposing our
culture upon them, lock, stock & barrel too. Those that do
broach the subject seem to imply that we must acquiesce to
their cultures & appease them & their differences 100%
with no consideration that their cultural differences may
be a large part of the problem.

I rarely see anyone make this issue a two way street to
gaining a mutual understanding of all of our differences.
