By "caring" I mean "votes", not some sort of loosey-goosey feel-your-pain. The kind of pain politicians should be looking forward to is being thrown out of office, and with a little luck, into jail if there is any proof of illegal money from China, Saudi Arabia, Israel, or pernicious un-American companies like Enron who steal from the working stiffs who own, fight and die for this country, and route the money into undisclosed offshore locations.

The problem with tagging Enron-type malfeasance, which is a good example of the problem, is that the number of people compromised with those dollars would mean throwing out a majority of Congress.

Which is an excellent idea.

Re: illegal immigration, remember who gains. An overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to the mealy-mouthed policies of Bush and the previous several administrations. That has not been sufficient to remove the Congressional ticks from the American bloodstream. It will require someone like Dean, since the politicians in the Beltway who represent non-American interests can only be dragged away kicking and screaming, mercilessly pummled in a populist revolt.
