... that recharge with a few cranks of a handle

There's a South African company, Freeplay, providing a range of crank-driven products (e.g. radios, mobile phones, torches):

Thanks uw! Didn't know there were solar powered chargers...

Wonder if they would work in the grey NW? (Will check it out after the Holidays....oops...see what 'we' mean...we're ready, but not prepared...)

Also, good idea on the cell phone contact time...

I did have everything ready to go...two bags of items...two per car, with the though that if necessary, the items would be already in the car, and even if it were in the driveway, and we were at home...we could still use the items.

Only problem was...hubby thought that was too 'untidy' (I had everything in clear see through plastic bags, heavy duty ones...he hates plastic bags, and disorder) Sooooooo, he reorganized like items with like items, into matching storage boxes, and they are all piled neatly in the garage.

Wryly, I said: "Well, that's very organized and tidy. BUT we would have to be home to use any of the items..."

You might think about having a chapter called "Mars and Venus......."

Well, there has to be some levity when we think about the unthinkable, or it will overwhelm us all, and we will all be in permanent denial.
