It is interesting that this version makes more sense to you. It builds a theory on very little....
It is amazing to me that you apparently find it so easy to go to war. On nothing. There was no "imminent threat." There wasn't even a particularly grave danger, not from Saddam. Certainly not one that required immediate action, as Bush claimed. We went to war in Iraq because the Republicans wanted to divert attention from the economy with this war in '02, and wanted an easier target than "Al Qaeda" in Iraq for '04.

Gotta hand to him and Rove, their political strategy has worked quite well so far.
