That article is piffle. It's the same thinking all over again.

To be fair to Americans, it's been a long time since they've had a currency collapse. Wait until the US defaults on bonds to generate interest in gold.

The depression was partly about protecting the value of money, not destroying it. I think the US almost went broke in the War of 1812, but with the country rapidly expanding at the time, no big deal.

I was born in England, and I know what a country unable to generate sufficient economic activity relative to expectations feels like. Hungry. Present day Americans know nothing of hunger, but they will.
