Nasdaq CEO denies in talks to merge with NYSE

NEW YORK, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Nasdaq Stock Market Inc.
<NDAQ.OB> Chief Executive Robert Greifeld on Tuesday denied a
published report that he approached the New York Stock Exchange
regarding a possible merger of the two marketplaces.
"They're not true," Greifeld said of reports that he
approached the exchange. "It's an interesting story, but
there's no basis in fact."
Greifeld made the comments during an appearance on CNBC
television. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the day
that the Nasdaq chief executive had approached the NYSE, the
world's largest stock exchange, about three weeks ago to
explore a possible merger.
