>>Same in Beijing, though in the very initial stages<<

China has had the most booming Internet traffic for multimedia thingz for the last TWO years. I personally dl a couple of GB daily of all kinds of compressed Chinese TV dramas/movies/musics/sports programs from ftp servers located in China.

I read that in Chengdu (SiChuan Province), one only needs to pay 500 Yuan for installation and 60 Yuan/month for 4 mbps connection both down and up stream (this equivalent would have to cost $1,000/month in the US to say the least). And here in the US, I have to pay $50/month for a lousy 1.2 mbps down and 240 kbps up stream. talk about the cost of bandwidth. But in Shanghai and Beijing, the bandwidth is more expensive than Chengdu.
