After the Bell-McDonald's stock sinks on mad cow news
Tue December 23, 2003 05:26 PM ET

NEW YORK, Dec 23 (Reuters) - McDonald's Corp. (MCD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) stock fell more than 4 percent after Tuesday's close, after a U.S. industry official said a suspected case of mad cow disease is being investigated in Washington state.
Shares of McDonald's, the world's biggest restaurant chain, tumbled to $24.20 on Instinet from their close of $25.28 on the New York Stock Exchange.

If true, the incidence of mad cow would be the first in the United States. The official, who wished not to be identified, said she was unsure of how many cases were found.
