Because of the Holidays I haven't had a chance to read the entire issue, though I've read Steve's article, which is really quite good. My kudos to him for a job well done. The level of detail and the historical context he placed on the Abu Sayyaf issue was fantastic. I hope he reads this accolade.

I did read the Doran article. Equally good. First time I've seen a decent description of the reformist vs. Wacko forces at work in SA. Though one hopes that Abdullah's faction will prevail, the SA secret police that Nayef controls has a mind of its own. Nayef is clearly an opportunistic hack, but he is nevertheless quite powerful. Time will tell, though one would think that as Crown prince, Abdullah would have the upper hand.
